The beauty of humility
Selfishness is at the root of many sins. It was Satan's rebellion against God that led to his being cast out of heaven. Though we know he held a high status among the angels, he desired to exalt himself above God and receive the worship meant for God alone.
Humility, on the other hand, is being able to give without any ulterior motive or expectation of receiving anything in return. It says a lot about a person’s character and values when they treat someone well, who can’t do anything for them. While this level of humility goes beyond the typical understanding to ‘not have an inflated view of yourself’ and is often counter to the culture of the world, we have been given the perfect example to follow.
Jesus became human to be able to lead the way in what it means to be humble. He put the eternal future of mankind ahead of His own comfort, enduring excruciating pain and suffering, so we can choose eternal life in heaven with our Father and creator as co-heirs with Him. Humility is the choice to think of others’ needs as being more important than ours. It is the ultimate reflection of Christ in us.
