Finding purpose in serving
In a culture that often prizes self-promotion and personal ambition, the Bible’s call to humility really goes against the grain. Philippians encourages us to be focused on the value and interests of others more than ourselves, and to actively invest in their purpose and worth.
When we’re humble, our minds are redirected away from self-centered pursuits and towards the needs and concerns of others. Humility calls us to lay aside our own desires and ambitions, realising that there’s a unique fulfillment found in selfless service.
Being humble also forces us to recognise our own limitations and see our need to both offer grace and understanding in relationships, as well as accept it ourselves.
Choosing humility can be uncomfortable but, when we’re willing to embrace it, we’re keeping in step with the greatest exemplar of humility there is: Jesus.
Today, let’s see humility as a guiding principle in our lives, seeking to serve others with love, compassion, and grace, and finding our ultimate purpose in bringing glory to God through the way we love others.
