Humility

DAY 3 OF 7

A humble heart

The world likes to tell us that we are masters of our own destinies. We’re told that we can do whatever we want because we know what’s best, so we don’t need to answer to anyone but ourselves. But the reality is that we don’t have all the answers and the idea that we know what’s best is far from the truth.

The only one who has all the answers is God. He’s the one who made us, and He knows us better than we know ourselves, therefore He knows what’s best for us. He also is the only one who truly has everyone’s best interests at heart and the only one who can see the whole picture. Our perspective is limited to our own lives and what we can see.

To accept that God is the one who knows best requires a posture of humility from us. To trust that God knows best requires us to surrender to Him, give up control of what we want and, entrust our lives to Him. That can be difficult for some of us who, like me, like to be in control. It can feel scary to surrender all your hopes, dreams, and wants to God. But it is the greatest thing we can do because God loves us beyond what we can understand, so when we surrender to Him and seek His wisdom, He treats us with care.

He knows our struggles, so when we come to Him with a humble heart that’s surrendered to Him, He will lead and guide us in His perfect love.
