A Year of Prayer: Season One Weekday Devotionalsنموونە
This week, we will explore different elements of the scripture through poetry.
Pour out Your spirit of righteousness on a people who are thirsty,
starved for spiritual bread,
malnourished in Your ways.
Pour out Your spirit of truth on a people drunk on injustice,
confusion, lies, and befuddlement;
Who are content to exchange purity for pleasure;
honesty for ‘trying’
and hearts of gold for dross at the bottom of the smelters pot.
Burn away our iniquity, and make us a people worthy of Your holy,
holy,
holy name;
of honour,
of the compassion You show us.
Burn away our complacency, our fallacy, the untruths, and hard hearts
that weigh us down but which we call ‘grounded.’
Let us rejoice together as a people set apart.
A people marked for prosperity of spirit
and poorness of pride.
Let us be humble
and worship together at the footstool of the One who was and is and is to come.
Whose eternity extends forever, whose reign will never end,
who saw the beginning and the end,
and lives forever.
You are king, You are righteous, and the whole world sings Your praises.
The whole earth comes on bended knee.
Shake us from our comfort!
Wake up, sleeper, lounger, defector!
Come, let us run to the house of the Lord!
Where justice is served, mercy endures, and hearts melt at the sight of the Beautiful one.
Forget not the Lord in the spring of your youth, in the lushness of wealth, and in a world corrupted by self;
Bind his words to your heart, let your tongue be caught up in extolling His virtue and majesty, let your soul sing for the joy of the Lord.
For the joy of the Lord
it is our strength.
Prayer: Jesus, help me to worship you with all my true strength. Let me relax into your mercy and grace. Keep me from stumbling so that I may live to serve you.
Action: Reflect on the poem above. What aspects of your worship (giving glory to God) do you see reflected here? What would you change?
