LIVING WITH BROKENNESS
When I was a kid, I had a naive optimism that in time I could fix every problem in my life. There was endless time left on the clock, and with effort I could learn and master whatever I chose.
In the middle years of my life, I am kind of crestfallen to realize how many things in my world are still broken. I cannot undo the divorces of people I love. I cannot fix Parkinson's disease or leukemia. I have not stopped sinning and, in fact, am still sorely tempted by things that dogged me 30 years ago.
I know that my God will completely overhaul me when I get to heaven--no more sin, pain, tears, frustrations, regrets, guilt, sickness, or death. I can't wait! But in the meantime, how can you and I stagger on with so much brokenness in our lives? The Bible has some wonderful words of encouragement to help us bear and overcome what we cannot fix in our lives. Let’s talk . . .
