21 Days of Prayer and Fasting With Rock City Churchنموونە
DAY 17: MY COMMUNITY
Read: Genesis 2:18; Proverbs 18:1; Matthew 6:6; Mark 1:35; James 5:16; Proverbs 12:26; Hebrews 10:24-25
As you read through the account of creation in the book of Genesis, you will quickly notice a pattern. God created it and called it good, sometimes even very good. However, in Genesis 2:18, we read of the first indication of something being “not good” – and that is the concept of being alone. We are told in the book of Proverbs that choosing to isolate oneself from a place of pride and of a self-reliant mindset leads to destruction.
Jesus provides a perfect example of a life marked by solitude and community. Although Jesus was fully capable of accomplishing everything that He was sent to achieve by Himself, He chose to enlist a community of disciples. He models for us the benefits of choosing to live life according to God’s design.
PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, lead me to a community of believers who love You and seek to follow Your ways. I know that community is important, and that who I spend time with matters. Help me to discern who I allow to have influence in my life. Bless those in my community. Allow us to strengthen one another and to point each other to You.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. How can you be more intentional about developing a Christ-centered community?
2. When in your life have you isolated yourself? Describe the circumstances of that time. What helped you/can help you overcome isolation?
3. Who in your community can you bless today with prayer, encouragement, a phone call or a text letting them know how much they mean to you?
