DAY 1 OF 6

DAY 1 - JUST LIKE JESUS

Have you ever had a moment with God when He met you exactly when you needed Him? Or, how about a moment that could have no other explanation but God? I like to call those special moments “Just like Jesus” moments.

When I look back at my relationship with God, there have been countless times that He has met me exactly when I needed him: when I got in a car accident yet walked out scot-free, when my funds were low for college but a scholarship came through, or when I was broken-hearted and He gave me a friend like a sister. Can you recall the moments when God has come through for you?

One “Just like Jesus” moment that happened in my life came on the heels of a season of waiting. I wish I could say I never questioned God for a second, but in that season, I couldn’t help but wonder why God wasn’t seeming to move on my behalf. I was fresh out of college, and I was expecting that I was about to jump right from school into the middle of my hopes and dreams. I was confident God had laid out a plan and promise for me, and naturally, I thought that would begin right away. However, to my surprise, that transition didn’t come so easily. So, when things didn’t go how I’d hoped, I took matters into my own hands. I fought, I clawed, and I strived hoping that maybe an increased level of effort would give God the nudge He needed to open the doors to my dreams. But, with each level of striving, I was met with a resounding “no.” After I heard “no” countless times, sadly, I just started to agree with it. My hope and my belief that God had truly called me to this dream soon dwindled.

After months of disappointment, I finally confided in my best friend that I was feeling deep depression. She dropped everything to spend time with me, encourage me, and she ultimately took me with her to a local church. As that church service began, I remember desperately asking God to meet me in that moment. When the worship leader sang the first note, I instantly felt God’s presence so strongly. The frustration and disappointment that had dominated my thoughts instantly fell silent. Immediately, the chains of depression had broken off of me, and in that place of new found freedom - I wept. God was in the room, and He healed my heart and mind in that very moment.

This was just the beginning of the work He started in me. He took a broken person with broken dreams, and He restored and strengthened her. That is what He does. If He can do it for me, I know He can do it for you. Maybe you aren’t facing disappointment or hardship right now, but, chances are, you know someone who is. This is a moment to respond to all that God has done for you, and be the hands and feet that share the simple Gospel, in love.
