RESET YOUR “FIRSTS”
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matt 6:33
When I hear the term, “kingdom of God,” my mind used to drift off into this ambiguous, far away, intangible “I know this is important, but I don’t know what to make of it,” space. In many ways, there are dimensions to the spiritual realm that are a mystery. But the way I have come to understand the Kingdom of God is this: Heaven’s model and Earth’s intended design for life and fellowship with God and each other. It’s God’s way of doing things. The world as we know it has its own cultures and various ways of approaching life and relationships.
So does God! The beauty of what Jesus accomplished through His death and resurrection on the cross is that the space where God is and the space where we are can now overlap through a personal relationship with Jesus. Seeking God’s kingdom is entering into the space where God rules over all things, Jesus redeems all things, and the Holy Spirit fills all things. It’s by seeking the kingdom of God that we discover the origins of human purpose. To live in close fellowship with God requires that we understand what it means to live as a citizen of heaven while residing as an ambassador on earth.
So, this verse is saying, in essence…let your life overlap with God’s life, that you learn to live in harmonious cooperation with the Holy Spirit; that’s where you’ll develop the assurance that God will, without a doubt, give you everything that you need.
Today's Challenge: Can you identify some priorities that need a reset? Spend some time in prayer, inviting God’s Spirit to help reorder your "firsts."
