Reason 4: Know Him and Love Him

God’s Word also teaches us who God is, so we can know Him and love Him.

Here's why that matters:

You cannot know someone until you know about them. And God’s Word will teach you about God, so you can then look to Him and gaze at His face, knowing who He is.

Note that the mere act of reading God’s Word does not guarantee that you will know Him OR love Him.

It is possible to read the Bible without paying attention to what Holy Spirit is speaking to you through its pages. Jesus taught us this when He rebuked the Pharisees in John 5:37-40.

In that passage, Jesus pointed out that even the Pharisees studied the Scriptures. But, they did not recognize Jesus or love Him. The Scriptures testified of Jesus, but the Pharisees completely missed the point of what they read.

Don’t be like the Pharisees.

Instead, ask the Holy Spirit to open God’s Word up to you and give you revelation every time you read.

Since the Bible teaches us about Jesus and testifies of Jesus, we can learn who He is and what He is like as we read its pages. Then, we can fall in love with Him for the beautiful Savior that He is.
