Got Change?

DAY 21 OF 40

KINDNESS UNDESERVED

All of us have been told from our childhood that we ought to be kind. We all have some notion of kindness, that it is tenderness of heart towards the needs of someone. The Bible says that King David wanted to show kindness to the sons of Saul for the sake of his friend Jonathan, something that was not required of him to do. Boaz was kind to Ruth in letting her glean among the sheaves of his field. It was the kindness of God, expressed to us in Jesus that saved us from our sin. It is His kindness that makes Him want to gather us under His wings.

In all these examples we see kindness as an act of good pleasure that was extended to someone when it was not necessary on their part. But in each case it moved the heart of the receiver to bless the giver of that kindness. Jesus, during his earthly ministry, at times stopped what he was doing, to show acts of kindness to people (Mark 10:46-52). It is not always easy to show kindness to people, especially when we are caught up in our own world.

Where there is ego and self-centered living, there can be no kindness. It is hard enough to show kindness to our own family at times. But we are called to love our enemy and be kind to him (Rom 12:20). That is why it takes the work of God in our hearts for us to be transformed into kind people. Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit in the life of a Christian (Gal 5:22). Our acts of kindness are a way of showing the love of Christ to the people around us.

Remember, our acts of kindness are not done to curry someone's favor or done with ulterior motives. They are primarily deeds that reflect our Father in heaven, extending our good pleasure, expecting nothing in return. May the Spirit of God fill us afresh today so that we show acts of kindness to people around us.

About this Plan

Got Change?

We keep talking about change, how much this world needs it. True change is not brought about by the formation of new laws, rather by the transformation of each one’s life. You will find in this Plan a reminder for each day of an area we need to change in and grow, prompting us into Christ likeness and becoming the change this world needs to see and emulate. So…..Got Change?
