Got Change?

DAY 23 OF 40

OVERCOMING LAZINESS

A wise man said, “The best place to find a helping hand is at the end of your own arm”. While making this my motto early on in life, I struggled to let go of laziness, often sending my younger sister scampering to do my work, till finally relinquishing the so called right we older ones think we have to make our younger siblings do our bidding.

The Bible is pretty clear about diligence. Irrespective of whether we enjoy our task or not, it teaches us to give our best. There is zero tolerance for laziness in the Bible. Our God is diligent and there is absolutely no slothfulness in Him. Jesus, even after a tiring day of preaching, healing, talking to thousands of people or walking endless miles through dusty, hot villages, would still take the time to meet yet more people, or go up to a mountain to pray. He worked diligently, setting an example for us to follow.

Laziness leads to poverty, the Bible says, and rightly so. It destroys our testimony at our work places and lands us in much grief. Another word for laziness is ‘sluggishness’, derived no doubt from the slow, tentative movement of the slug, which speaks for itself. Laziness is an attitude of the mind that causes us to procrastinate and never finish anything we start, should we decide to start at all. Our lack of pitching in to help with work affects our relationship with our team, family and the Church. Paul dealt strongly with the Thessalonian church on this matter (2 Thessalonians 3:10). If lethargy is caused by fatigue resulting from a health issue, depression, or a disinterest caused from being a misfit at the work place, then deal with it, for there is no excuse for laziness.

Remember, ‘God blesses our diligence, not our laziness’ - Thomas Watson

The CHALLENGE to Change:

Make a list of tasks that are unfinished. Be realistic in picking a few that you can get done in the next few days. Make a plan, schedule the work, set a dead line and ask the Holy Spirit to push you to get it done.

About this Plan

Got Change?

We keep talking about change, how much this world needs it. True change is not brought about by the formation of new laws, rather by the transformation of each one’s life. You will find in this Plan a reminder for each day of an area we need to change in and grow, prompting us into Christ likeness and becoming the change this world needs to see and emulate. So…..Got Change?
