Do Something New
“If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.” - Thomas Jefferson
In order to grow, you’re going to have to do some new things. You may already be thinking about trying something new like time in prayer or serving in your church. But you may also be struggling to figure out what exactly you should do next. Here are a few sources you can use to figure out your next step in growing.
- God - This may seem like the obvious answer, but don’t forget to ask God. It’s pretty common for us to send quick prayers God’s way, but it’s much more difficult to slow down and try to listen to what He’s saying. Take some time to ask God what you should do, and then listen to Him. He wants to guide you. It’s likely you won’t hear an audible voice, but you might feel a nudge in your heart. God will give you what you need to take your next step.
- Friends/Family - Is there someone who knows you well who you trust spiritually? Here’s a great question to ask them: What’s an area you think I have room to grow in to become a better follower of Christ? Their answer will help you, but the conversation as a whole will help you a ton.
- Your Small Group Leader - Here’s another question you can ask: How has God been helping you grow lately? Learn from your leader’s story. Often, God uses other people’s journeys to inform our own.
Conversations with God, your friends, your family, and your small group leader can help you discern how God is leading you to grow. Whatever it is, focus on one next step at a time.
