The Opposition
A life lived in fanatic discipline consists of following your life rule no matter what or who stands in your way. The simplest of rules may have to be adhered to at a great cost to ourselves. Are you ready to face anything this world can throw at you and still follow the life rule that you have decided upon?
Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people. Opposition arose, but they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke (Acts 6:10). Ultimately, he became the first martyr of Christendom. Your life rule may not cost you your life, but it may cause you a little bit of hurt daily as you practice it.
A project I work on ought to streamline a process that will reduce wastage and put a stop to bribery among the officials to a great extent. There was great opposition to implementing the project, and it took a lot of effort to convince the top management that this project was worth implementing. I was singled out as someone trying to impose her ‘goody-goody Christian’ values on everyone, but our team persisted and finally got the go-ahead to proceed with the implementation.
Your will to stand firm on your principles may be as strong as a mountain, but constant complaining, backstabbing, and office politics may threaten your resolve and make you want to give up and compromise. Everyone in the world can’t like you. We shouldn’t even try to please everyone. If people don’t like you, so be it. It’s a price we should be ready to pay happily to stay true to our Christian character.
No trial or opposition can be greater than the grace God provides to overcome them. Keep your focus on God, and keep on praying. God will either take you around the obstacle or show you a path through or remove it altogether. But, just like the early Church, pray for strength to be firm. (Phil 4:1)
Dear Lord, help me courageously face opposition that makes me want to give up. Help me stand firm in all things that please Your heart. Amen
