Dash: Seeing Life Through the Lens of Eternity

DAY 1 OF 5

Perspective Changes Everything

Imagine a piece of string around the entire length of the ceiling in your living room. If you placed a dot with a marker on that string, it would represent life on earth compared to all eternity. Another illustration could be one grain of sand to all the world's deserts or a water droplet to the ocean expanse. That should blow our minds! Life on earth is short and temporary. The Bible calls it a mist and a vapour.

Getting old is something that happens to all of us. It doesn’t matter our age, fitness level, or how careful we eat - our bodies are ‘wasting away’ (2 Corinthians 4:17). One day, there will be a DASH between our birth and death date, and then in a flash, we will all walk through the doorway into the next life.

Eternity is forever. And for every Christ-follower, it is a beautiful forever. Revelation 21:1-5 gives us a glimpse into what Heaven will be like. There is so much to look forward to! And it is the wonder of what is in store that helps us to journey through the difficulties and trials we face in this life, knowing they will never be experienced in heaven.

The Apostle Paul went through the most extreme trials (Read 2 Corinthians 11:16-31), yet in 2 Corinthians 4:17, he talks about those difficulties being ‘light and momentary troubles.' The only reason Paul could have this perspective is that He saw them in light of eternity and the rewards ahead. And not only that, we can experience a growing relationship with the Lord as ‘our spirits are being renewed day by day.

Point to Ponder: If there was one sentence you would like to summarize your life on a gravestone, what would it be?

Lord Jesus, please help me fix my eyes on you each day and eternity. That is the wisest and most important focus I can have. Amen.
