The War on Wisdom

DAY 26 OF 35

As a rule of thumb when a word is mentioned multiple times in a speech or a piece of literature, the person communicating is trying to draw your attention to something of importance. This is when we need to sit up and listen!

In Proverbs, and the Bible to a greater extent, this is indeed the case when it comes to the tongue and the words spoken by people. Time and time again we are being warned about the power of the tongue and the strength of the words we speak. We should heed this warning, taking it to heart. If it wasn’t important, it would not have been included throughout Scripture so many times.

In fact, the writers throughout the Scriptures, when speaking on this topic, are very strong, calling out people who don't control their tongues as fools. Fools are those who do not listen before answering, who care only about arguing and sharing their opinions, and whose words and speech bring destruction to others and themselves. “The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives”.

Let us be a people who heed this warning. Trust God for revelation of when you may be falling into the traps mentioned throughout Proverbs. Hold your tongue, realize its power, and be slow to speak. Be a person where gossip stops in its tracks. The tongue has the power of life and death, and we are in control of it. Take responsibility for your words and your tongue.

About this Plan

The War on Wisdom

We are at War, a war raging since the day that man decided to choose a way other than following the Counsel of God. But God in His grace gave us the strategy we need to be victorious - His Wisdom. The 'War on Wisdom' is a 5-week reading plan through parts of the book of Proverbs. Our purpose is to help the believer reclaim the Wisdom of God.
