Have you ever lost something special to you? Maybe something that wasn't simply special to you, but something valuable as well? Do you know the sinking feeling that you felt when that item was lost? Unfortunately, most of the world felt that same way during the 1940s. Most of us know about the huge loss of human life during the Second World War, but the Nazis stole other, far less important, things too — like art. Really rare and expensive art. It is estimated that 20 billion dollars worth of art was stolen from Poland alone.
There was a group of men and women from fourteen countries who were put together called The Monuments Men to research, find, and preserve the artwork the Nazis stole. There was almost nothing they wouldn't do to retrieve these stolen masterpieces. They sacrificed, searched, fought, and didn't rest until they were confident they had found every lost masterpiece they could. Do you know God sees you as a distinct masterpiece? Do you know God sent Jesus to retrieve you, a once-lost work of art? God sees you as special, valuable, and irreplaceable.
How can you see yourself differently with this new knowledge? How can you respond to what Jesus has done for you?
