Q
is for Quiet Time
Quiet time with the Lord quiets our souls, strengthens our relationship with Him, and enables us to produce the fruit of righteousness.
Spending quiet time with the Lord, in Bible study, and prayer, does little without a devoted relationship with our Lord. This relationship is developed over time in consistent, and daily time set apart away from everything and everyone and followed by humble obedience. The harvest of true righteousness comes only by God’s grace and through His Spirit, but it flows forth from time spent with the Lord in His word.
Establish your time and relationship with the Lord, by clearing away all distractions and setting up boundaries. Clear the land, like the hardworking farmer that Paul refers to in 2 Timothy, or like settlers in the early days of America. Remove every obstacle, everything that sets itself up against your time spent with Him. Plow the hardened clay and break through the barrier of a mediocre quiet time. Dig deep to establish a relationship with the Lord of great intimacy and lasting importance. You may need to do and redo this in your walk with Him. Life brings its challenges and major interruptions. Don’t be discouraged if you find that you have to reclaim the ground you just cleared time and time again. The enemy isn’t going to give up his ground easily. Don’t let him take that ground and claim it for himself.
Know this, quiet time with the Lord just doesn't “fit” into a schedule. It never has, and it never will. It is purchased through sacrifice and faith. We have to make it happen often at a great cost. Fight for it. And fight for it again and again. You must throw yourself down upon this one priority. Jesus made His time with His Father a priority. Do the same. Ask for the Lord's help. There is nothing else that is more important.
