Family Christmas: A Devotional for Kids

DAY 7 OF 12

Hope for the Hopeless

By Danny Saavedra

“Because Rahab had faith, she was kept from being killed along with those who did not obey God.” – Hebrews 11:31 (NLV)

If you saw an apple, a banana, grapes, and broccoli on a table, which object would you say didn’t belong? Which object is not like the others?

If we have to pick a person who seems out of place in Jesus’ family, who you wouldn’t expect to see at Jesus’ family party like Abraham or Isaac, it would probably be Rahab. But that’s what’s so awesome about God’s family—everyone is invited in.

In the Bible, Rahab is a woman who didn’t always know God or live her life for Him. In fact, even though she made a lot of mistakes, it didn’t disqualify God from using her in a big way. He used Rahab to protect two Israelite spies by letting them stay at her house. These spies were good guys; they were on God’s side, and they were trying to win a battle against His enemy. It didn’t make any sense that she would risk her life to protect these two strangers, but she had heard about their God and the amazing things He had done and wanted to know Him for herself. When the battle started in her city, she and her family were protected because she had helped them.

Just like Rahab, even though you’ve messed up in the past, God still loves you! When you believe in Him, no amount of sin could make Him change His mind about you.
