Family Christmas: A Devotional for Kids

DAY 6 OF 12

Family Feud

By Danny Saavedra

“Now then, please let your servant remain here as my lord’s slave in place of the boy . . .” – Genesis 44:33 (NIV)

Do you remember Israel from yesterday’s story? He had a son named Joseph, and all of his brothers were really jealous of him. In fact, they decided to send Joseph away to work for another family as a slave. Years later, Joseph went from being a slave to being second in command next to the Pharaoh (someone like a king) in Egypt.

Joseph’s family didn’t have any food, so they came to Egypt for help. When they got there, they didn’t even recognize their brother. Joseph sent them away and asked them to bring back their brother Benjamin. His brother Judah said that he would look after him on their journey.

When they got back to Egypt, Joseph decided to test his brothers to see if they had changed from being mean and jealous. He put a cup of silver in Benjamin’s bag to make it look like he stole it. When Benjamin was accused of stealing, Judah said he would take his punishment for him even though he actually didn’t do it. What Judah was willing to do for Benjamin was just like what Jesus actually did for us when He willingly died for us to save us from our sins.

When Joseph saw how kind Judah was to Benjamin, he finally told them he was their brother, and they all celebrated together! Like Joseph, it’s never too late for us to forgive others, especially people in our family.
