"I Am..." How Jesus Reveals Himselfنموونە
During their journey from Egypt to Canaan, the Israelites lived in the desert for years. There God gave them bread from heaven (see Exodus 16). The Israelites have never forgotten about this work of God. Now they ask Jesus to do something similar, to prove that He is more than an ordinary human.
But Jesus gives them an unexpected answer. He says that He, Himself, is the bread that God gives. “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger.”
Jesus feeds people spiritually, He satisfies their deepest spiritual longing. They need not hunger anymore, for Jesus gives them abundance.
A little further, He explains: “If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” These are cryptic statements. But later they became clear; Jesus indeed gave up His life (his “flesh”) to save humanity. He offered them eternal life by dying in their place.
Have you already eaten from this “bread of life”?
