"I Am..." How Jesus Reveals Himselfنموونە
In today’s text, Jesus compares himself with a shepherd – more precisely, with a good shepherd. The ultimate proof that He is a very good shepherd, indeed, is that He is willing to lay down His life for the sheep (verse 11). We know that Jesus literally did that when He died at the cross for humanity’s sake.
A shepherd takes care for his sheep, he protects them, provides them with food and water. This even goes so far that he knows every single sheep. They recognize his voice when he calls them, and they follow him (verse 4).
All this applies to God’s care for us humans as well. The question is whether you trust and follow Jesus as your Shepherd, or prefer to choose your own ways – and face the consequences.
That probably depends on your “knowledge” of Him: do you have a deep and personal relationship with Jesus, so that you know from experience how good and wise and trustworthy He is?
