Love God Greatly: Empowered

DAY 2 OF 40

When the Holy Spirit came upon the believers on the day of Pentecost they were empowered to preach the gospel to the world. From the very first day they preached the gospel, the followers of Jesus experienced opposition. Even still, they continued to preach the Word and live in unity.⁣

The unity of the early church was vastly different than the cultural norms of the first century. Social classes were rigid and slavery was prevalent and accepted. However, the early believers in Christ recognized their lives and resources were not their own. They were committed to spreading the gospel and meeting each other’s needs. No one, whether slave or free, rich or poor, socially influential or not, was denied. They recognized the importance of spreading the gospel message over hoarding their resources, and they were committed to one another. ⁣

Because of their commitment to the gospel and to one another, the world took notice. When we live in light of our position in Christ instead of our social standing, it makes an impact. May we, like the early church, live in unity with other believers. ⁣

Lord Jesus, thank You that I have unity with other believers because of You. Help me live in unity with other believers today. Show me how to encourage other believers and how we, together, can bring the light of Your gospel to the world. Amen.

About this Plan

Love God Greatly: Empowered

Empowered: Yesterday and Today is a deep study of the book of Acts. As we study the early church and the spread of the gospel we hope to find encouragement and strength to continue spreading the message of the gospel in our spheres of influence. God empowered the early church to share the gospel every single day, and He does the same for us, even now.
