MOTIVES
We are saved, not by our works, but by the faith of believing. We receive the grace of salvation from God, but we do good deeds as a sign that we have received that salvation. Our good deeds are to glorify God.
Once, David asked to count the number of Israelites who were ready to escort Israel. There's nothing wrong with counting troops, but God knew David’s motive and this was not pleasing God. David forgot that God was the one who led Israel, so God allowed the people to be plagued, and many died.
When we do good deeds, it's not to show other people who we are. Our good deeds are only to glorify God. The Lord Jesus told us to become the light of the world so that through our good deeds, many people will glorify God.
How much money you have contributed to the church or helping people is not a criteria to get God’s favor. In fact, God is more interested in the offering of the poor widow who gave all, for the Lord investigates the intent of the heart, whether it is sincere and lives by faith.
When we do good deeds, it's not to show other people who we are. Our good deeds are only to glorify God.
