HUMBLE HEART
David has succeeded in every battle, conquering many regions. The people of Israel have become a very powerful nation. But there is an unfulfilled longing of David, which is to move the Ark of God to Jerusalem. There is an interesting lesson we can learn from this story.
The ark was transported from Kirjathjearim in a new cart. Uzza and Ahio drove the cart. When they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzza reached out to stabilize the ark; for the oxen stumbled.
What happened then? The anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and GOD smote him. It displeased David's heart and he cancelled the journey of the ark of God and carried it aside into the house of Obed Edom, the Gittite.
We may wonder why God is angry over Uzza's actions. Maybe it's because Uzza forgot about the sanctity of the Ark. He felt so accustomed to seeing the Ark of God that he didn’t respect it and just touched it with his hand. Remember that The Ark of God is representative of the glorious presence of God. Oftentimes, we feel so used to God's presence that we take it lightly or underestimate His presence.
After David investigated the root cause of God's wrath, he found that the ark of God must be carried by the Levitical priests. In this life we also must ask the Spirit of God to investigate, correct and convict us. The humble person will want to be corrected, repent and change from all wrongdoings and attitudes.
Oftentimes, we feel so used to God's presence that we take it lightly or underestimate His presence.
