Listening To The Word - 1 Year

DAY 27 OF 365

A Holy Nation

Exodus 19:5-6
“Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”

What is the purpose of the Ten Commandments and of God’s call to obey his voice?

He has called us to be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation among all the other nations of the world.

Has this calling to be a collective witness to the nations of the world, been replaced by the new covenant of Christ’s blood?

Peter reminds us that the church is a “chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (I Peter 2:9) We still have a collective witness as kingdom citizens, living in the kingdom of the world. We are set apart and distinctive because we obey God’s voice and keep his commandments. Our collective witness as God’s people is as important as our individual witness.

Lord Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice for my sins, once for all. Thank you that I am part of your kingdom, your inheritance. I pray for grace to listen and to obey your Spirit’s voice this day, and for obedience of all your commandments.
