Eternity Is Our Homeنموونە
Walking Towards Home Today
Our eternal home is with God, and He has made a way for us to one day return to Him. Through Christ, we can live with a sense of that eternal home here and now while living our temporary lives on this temporary earth.
While Jesus walked on earth, He told His followers that He came to give them abundant life (John 10:10). Although we do not physically dwell with God while we live on earth, we can still access that abundant life today through the power of the Holy Spirit.
All throughout the New Testament, readers receive directions on how to “walk in the Spirit.” As we saw in the last devotional, Christ sent His Spirit after defeating death and sin through His glorious resurrection. Now, that Spirit “helps us in our weakness”(Romans 8:26) and leads us towards the abundant life Christ has for us today and in the future.
Living in the Spirit is all about trusting in the ways of the Lord. Sometimes people think it is all about following strict rules and regulations in order to earn “the abundant life”, but it is more about obediently responding to the abundant life that He has already given to us. He has proven His love by dying for us, and now we can respond by trusting in His ways.
When we live in this way, Galatians 5 points out that we do not “gratify the desires of the flesh”(Gal. 5:16). A life in the Spirit looks more like a life in our eternal home than a life in the flesh does.
The scriptures today remind us the differences between a life in the flesh and a life in the Spirit. All people who live in the Spirit will start to live the abundant life of Christ and produce the “fruits of the Spirit,” but it’s important that we remember that it is not something we can do on our own. We need the Spirit to move in us and help us walk in the ways of the Lord. Trust in Him today and pray that He leads you through His Holy Spirit.
About this Plan
This study will look at how our eternal home is with God. While we are exiles on earth, this plan will show how God has a plan to bring all of His people back home to Him.
