After decades of war and instability, the nation of Iraq, with over 42,000,000 people, continues to remain unstable even as the country attempts to rebuild.

The Church in Iraq remains fraught with challenges despite once having a 20% presence. It faces ongoing persecution and threats from militias, leading to a steady exodus of Christian believers. Established churches—once vibrant hubs of worship—are now dwindling in attendance as people flee.

Though Iraq is a Muslim-majority nation with approximately 95-98% adhering to Islam, the fastest growing religion is ancient Zoroastrianism—the religion of the Babylonians. Its spread is an indicator that the strongholds of Islam are beginning to crack.

Christians continue to offer the alternative presented by the Gospel and hold on to the hope of a revival, especially among Kurds in the northern autonomous region.

Prayer Points to Consider:

• Pray for freedom and peace among the various ethnic groups within Iraq. That understanding would grow amongst Turkic, Kurdish, and Arabic peoples.
• Pray in the authority of Jesus' name against the enemy’s plans for the country and that remnants of ISIL and extreme Islam would vanish.
• Ask Father for the underground church to grow despite government and social oppression, asking for the Holy Spirit to bring winds of revival through His supernatural gifts and the power of God’s Word.
• Pray for healthy and strong leadership and more significant streams of discipleship for the believers, growing in wisdom and discernment.
• Pray that the Iraqi diaspora in Europe, the United States, and Canada would encounter Jesus abroad and be compelled to return home to Iraq and help others find their place in His Kingdom.

Dear Heavenly Father...I take a few moments now to wait upon You as I pray for Iraq ______ (take time to do this). I ask for Your covering over every believer in this nation, for their protection and strengthening in the Holy Spirit and Your Word. In this dark nation, may their light shine as a stark contrast to the chaos and fear around them. That they would live boldly but wisely. May a deep hunger arise for Your Truth in those outside the faith from every station or position in life—a hunger that will only be fulfilled in You. I also ask for national stability and for extremism to be quenched. All in all, Lord Jesus, I ask for Your intervention, piercing the darkness and reaching multitudes. In Your All-Glorious Name, I pray. Amen!
