The Breath of Lentনমুনা

Jesus' earthly days were counting down. There was a heaviness about the coming of the crucifixion, but none of the disciples could articulate the heaviness they were feeling. Each word and action of Jesus seemed immense with every passing day. Certainly, Jesus washing the disciples' feet was one of those pivotal teaching moments.
It was the duty of the household servant to wash the feet of dinner guests, but this night, there was not a servant to be found. Jesus quietly took on the humble role. We know that Peter bristled and the final revelation wanting total cleansing by his statement, "Not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"
There is another phrase that must be fleshed out in this account:
"Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God…"
Jesus knew who He was: the Son of God, Savior of the world. He knew what was available to Him, all His Heavenly Father's power. He knew His future was secure by His Father's side. The same can be said for any disciple of Jesus.
If the cost of discipleship feels too heavy for you, remind yourself that you are a child of God, His power is within you to complete His will for your life, and your great reward will be a secure place by His side in eternity.
May this week's breath prayer based on Philippians 4:13, "I can do all this through him who gives me strength," give you courage to meet every task he calls you to do:
Inhale: I can do all this
Exhale: Through him who gives me strength.
