Living Single

DAY 4 OF 5

Let’s spend today discussing practical ways to maximize your life while living single. Just as you have more time to devote to God during this season, you also have more time to pursue your passions, goals, and purpose. This is especially important if you haven't yet discovered what those things might be. While a significant other can support you in these areas, there's nothing quite like entering a relationship with a clear understanding of your calling. This clarity helps you recognize who is truly suited to accompany you on your journey.

Consider Eve, who was created to be a suitable helper for Adam. Adam had already received his assignment from God, and then God created Eve specifically to assist him in that task. This illustrates an important principle: Adam knew his purpose before receiving his partner. While you don’t need to have everything perfectly figured out, the underlying message is to pursue God and your calling, and watch Him work things out in your life.

In exploring your passions, take that trip, investigate new career paths, build friendships, serve in your church, and cross items off your bucket list. The truth is, your future spouse might not enjoy or want to participate in everything you love, so take advantage of this opportunity to explore the world and do what you’ve always wanted to do. Who knows? You might even meet them along the way.

Here are a few overlooked benefits of being single: When you crave your favorite restaurant, you don't have to worry about someone else not wanting to go. And with leftovers, you don’t have to stress about someone else eating them! Just for fun, when you’re out with friends enjoying yourself, you don’t have to field constant messages asking where you are or when you’ll be home. Many of you might appreciate that last one!

Overall, I want to encourage you to embrace the benefits of being single, which include the freedom to live life on your own terms. Many people postpone their dreams for when they get married, but you can and should enjoy your life now. Don’t wait to take that trip, try that restaurant, or engage in that activity. If anything, do it now so you have experiences to share with your future partner when you eventually meet them.

Remember, Jesus said that He came so we might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10), so live to the glory of God, even in your singleness!

Prayer: Lord, help me enjoy my single season. I desire to live life to the fullest, all for your glory. I won’t let fear or anxiety keep me from pursuing my goals, passions, or purpose while single. I thank you for helping me discover those things even now. In Jesus’ name, amen.
