"It was for freedom that Christ set us free therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.”
A picture of freedom for a dog is sticking his head out the window and feeling the breeze in his face. What comes to mind when you think of freedom? Some may picture the Statue of Liberty, and yet others may picture being released from jail or prison and being free in society.
The readers of this verse and the New Testament letter from the Apostle Paul may have applied it to not being under the yoke of the law. There were people in the Church that were teaching, Jesus plus. . . and then adding to
Scripture helps us to interpret and apply Scripture. In this case, Ephesians 2:10 helps:
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”
Are you bound by the shackles of feeling like you must do good works to please God? Freedom is when we can do the work of the Lord that he has prepared for us to do and do it not out of a spirit of obligation but out of a spirit of joy. We do not work to obtain our standing with Christ, we work because he has set us free.
What burden are you carrying that Jesus Christ the righteous wants to set you free from?
Lord, thank you for setting me free and giving me a place to stand firm. May I serve you today with joy in the understanding of the freedom I have in you?
