Jesus’ Arrest, Trial, and Crucifixion - Day 9
Jesus was killed on the day of preparation, that is, the day when Jews clean themselves for the Sabbath. When the Jewish leaders delivered Jesus to Pilate, they wouldn’t even enter the palace because it would make them unclean.
But Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus chose to bury Jesus. Touching a dead body was probably the dirtiest a Jew could get, and to do it on the afternoon before Sabbath meant they might not be able to move through the cleaning rituals in time to eat the Sabbath meal. Why would they do it? Because they recognized him as the Son of God.
Are we willing to take such a stand for Jesus? Will we go against the flow of society to declare Jesus as our Lord? He died to give us such an opportunity.
