God's Redemption Story (Genesis)

DAY 10 OF 25

A psychologist at Union College in New York instructed study participants to watch a video of people passing a basketball and count the number of passes. Partway through the video, a man dressed as a gorilla walks on screen, turns toward the camera, thumps his chest, then exits. The study found inattention blindness caused many people to remain focused on counting passes and fail to notice the gorilla.

We may laugh and say we’d never miss a gorilla, but chances are we, too, suffer from inattention blindness every day. We’re busy with work, a packed schedule, children to care for, or a medical illness. And instead of missing the man in a gorilla suit, we are blind to the reminders of God’s promises.

God gave us the rainbow as a sign of his love, yet when did we last look at a rainbow and remember that promise? When we focus on our own form of counting passes, we miss what God might have for us—even something as obvious as a rainbow!
