God's Redemption Story (Genesis)

DAY 12 OF 25

As Abram traveled around the great land God gave him, he built altars here and there to mark the places where God had made a promise and to thank God for his goodness. Genesis 13:4 tells us Abram made his way back to one of those markers and called out to God. Seeing that altar reminded him of God’s presence in his life. Abram knew he had heard from God before and wanted to talk with him again.

When God makes us a promise, speaks to our hearts, or does something great, do we build altars? Not usually. We may shoot up a quick prayer, “Thanks, God!” But we ought to stop and create a marker to remind us of the goodness of our loving God. Something that will remind us of his promises and care. Something that will lead us to talk with him again.
