Precious Moments That Count For Eternityনমুনা
Our Reward from God
God’s generosity is manifested in several different ways. In the world, we see many dishonest people manipulate the system for their own benefit, very often at the cost of their employers. When believers see such people thriving, they feel God is partial in His generosity. Some believers enjoy God’s promises of prosperity, mercy and grace more than others. How is it that the church keeps giving them so much prominence with such important responsibilities and positions, even though they don’t appear to know the Word so well or pray so fluently and serve the Lord as much as I do?
A few of the vineyard workers, in the parable in Matthew 20:1-15, were grappling with certain issues. Do we feel the same way? Perhaps after having spent many years serving the church, we feel ignored and devalued. In spite of all the gifts and talents we possess and the amount of hard work we have put in silently over the years, the leadership seems to be in awe of the younger lot. They get all the recognition and praise while we crave for even the slightest word of appreciation. Nobody cares for us anymore!
While the feelings are understandable in a natural sense, the Bible tells us to look at our attitude in our walk with God very differently. Paul says, “We speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts” (1 Thessalonians 2:4 NIV).
Our life is dedicated to pleasing God, not man. Being co-heirs with Christ, we are recognized as children of God the Father, the King of kings and Creator of this universe! We know that our time here on earth is limited and we are temporary citizens of this planet. What we’re living for and working towards is eternal life with Jesus our Lord and Savior.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to recognize my identity in Jesus and let my life not be about seeking recognition from men, but about the eternal blessings that come from having a relationship with You – salvation, peace, joy, healing, prosperity, protection and much more. Amen.
