Do you know how God feels about you? He loves you more than you could ever possibly imagine! You are much more than just a tool for Him to accomplish His purposes here on earth. He wants to relate to us, His beloved children, in a much more intimate way. He wants us to be in Christ, in the same way that Christ is in the Father.
In fact, Jesus prayed that very thing in John 17:21–22. He prayed for people like you and me—for all who would believe the message of the Gospel—He prayed just like this: He said…
[I pray]…that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one.
That is the most wonderful and the most awesome mystery—isn’t it? Almost impossible to really comprehend. Jesus wants us, believers, to be one with Him and the Father, and to be one with each other, just like Jesus and God the Father are one!
That means that God wants us close to Him. Closer than a friend or a brother, the Bible says. Closer than even an earthly relationship that we think of. Jesus is the God who wants a deep, personal relationship with you. And He wants ALL of our relationships—with Himself and others—to flow with His powerful love. That’s what unifies us—His Holy Spirit, and the love among us.
It’s love that's bigger, more powerful, and more abundant than any love we’ve ever experienced from other people. It’s like a glue—it sticks us together with God, and binds us together with one another.
So, let’s pray…
Jesus, thank You that You don't just want to rule over us, You want to dwell with us. You don't want just for us to be obedient to You only—You want our love. And You don't want to just receive love, You want to pour out Your uniting love that binds us all together. You are Emmanuel, God with us, the God who wants closeness with His people. Thank You, Lord. Thank You.Amen!
God wants to develop a deep and loving relationship with you!
