Through the Bible: Isaiah

DAY 4 OF 19

Warning To Our Modern World

You will say in that day: “I will give thanks to you, O Lord, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me.
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭12:1‬ ‭(ESV)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Isaiah 12 is a song of praise to the Lord.  Isaiah 13 and 14 are a big contrast from chapter 12. At the time of this prophecy, Babylon was only a rising nation.  The Lord, however, foretold the pride and fall of Babylon through Isaiah hundreds of years in advance. This prophecy could be a sign of warning to our modern world, that is self-centred and trusting in its own wealth and power. When Jesus returns the second time, there will be judgment upon the fallen world and evil will eventually be destroyed.  In contrast, God will uplift His chosen people. In Isaiah 14, we see that God is merciful to the Israelites. He promised to crush their enemy, i.e. Babylon, and bring the remnants home even though the Israelites are far from perfect. Just as Isaiah 12:1 says, “for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me.” God’s fatherly love leads us out of evil, despair and difficulties, despite our weaknesses.

Prayer

Father God, thank You for fighting the enemies for us and with us, and for the chance to review our own approach in life. Father, remove any prideful ‘seeds’ in our minds and in our ministry, knowing You are the One who reigns, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
