Through the Bible: Isaiah

DAY 19 OF 19

Final Judgement

For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the Lord, so shall your offspring and your name remain. From new moon to new moon, and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before me, declares the Lord.
And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me. For their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.
Isaiah 66:22-24 (ESV)

The Book of Isaiah is filled with many prophecies; it provides us with the most comprehensive prophetic picture of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament.

Isaiah spoke about judgments against the people who have turned their backs on the Lord. In the concluding verses of the book he also talked about how the Lord has prepared a New Heaven and a New Earth for His children. The words in verse 24 “their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched” are referred to by Jesus as what would happen in hell (Mark 9:47-48).

The Book of Isaiah is a book to chew on. It’s a call for believers to come back to Him. It lays a clear vision for a future of heaven for His followers and judgment for those who rebel against Him.

Prayer

Lord, the creator of heaven and the earth, we exalt You, we praise Your name, we thank You for the words You spoke through Your prophets. We pray for Your mercy during the times we turn away from You. We pray that we will persevere and follow You to a place of new heaven, and new earth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
