Deliver Us From Evil

The proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim will be trodden underfoot;  

Isaiah 28:3 (ESV) 

For the bed is too short to stretch oneself on, and the covering too narrow to wrap oneself in.

And the word of the LORD will be to them precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little, that they may go, and fall backward,  and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Isaiah prophesied few years before the downfall of the Northern Kingdom (represented by Ephraim) where drunkenness had obscured the people’s vision and judgment, and God’s word was treated like derisive babbling words. The Southern Kingdom thought they were better off and more sophisticated, but they too were blinded.  

Comparing achievements in the world (intellectual, material, technology, arts, philosophy, etc) has little significance in the Creator’s sight. He has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise (I Cor 1:27).  All are subject to the test when a pandemic strikes. We are reminded to be sober and vigilant. 

When the universal language of man accelerated the technological advances to build the Tower of Babel, human pride nearly destroyed them. Today the emergence of common digital language is a 2-edged sword, where its abuse could serve as a snare for prideful advances, lies, temptations and a mocking ground.  But it also serves as a great platform to share the Good News of God, precept upon precept, line upon line, that sets one free. 

Prayer

Lord, thank You for prolonging the grace period for humanity to allow for the working out of Your salvation plan. We pray for Your light to shine in the darkness, Your truth to silence lies and Your deliverance for those suffering from evil and sin. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
