Reset Your Perspective - God’s Kingdom
When we started the year 2020, everyone wanted to talk about the year of “perfect vision.” But as we all know, 2020 took some twists and turns that nobody expected, turning everyone’s lives upside down. We were left with nowhere to look but up, and ask God, “Lord, what in the world is going on?!”
As followers of Christ, we have always been called to walk by faith and not by sight, but in our human nature, we like the illusion of being in control. We want to be in charge of our own lives, make our own plans, and execute our own timelines. But the year 2020 broke our idol of “certainty,” and nothing was predictable, we were forced to face circumstances outside of our control.
When our plans are shaken and things don’t turn out the way we envisioned, then we have to answer a critical question: Will I try to force my own vision and perspective, or will I ask God to give me His?
Paul directed the church in Colossae to, “Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth.” (Colossians 3:2) Having faith means we don’t feel entitled to have all the answers. We’re committed to living with a deeper sense of purpose that can’t be shaken by current events or hostile environments. We have a heavenly and eternal perspective; we know there’s more to come than what we see directly in front of us!
As the new year begins, let's first look up, before we look ahead. We need a kingdom perspective. If we have been chasing and expecting things that haven’t come to pass, maybe it’s time for a reset. We have to remember that “God does not see as man sees, since man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7) Let’s go into the new year asking God to give us His kingdom perspective and godly vision.
Prayer & Reflection: Lord, shift my perspective so that I can have eyes to see what You see. I want Your vision for my life for the coming year.
