A Time to Renew
When I first got saved, I carried a Bible with me everywhere I went. And I still try to maintain this habit. I have often said: Don’t leave your house in the morning unless you have a word from God! The word of God is our daily bread, and we need to eat every day.
Nowadays, it’s particularly easy to carry the Word of God with you everywhere you go in the form of a phone in your pocket. I love technology, and it can be an incredible tool, but you have to remember that the second your phone comes out, it’s easy to be distracted by text messages, social media, or the latest football scores.
As we start this new year, let’s commit to taking time every day to fully immerse ourselves in God’s word, completely undistracted, and focus on hearing what He has to say to us. This is how we renew our minds. It’s easy to be overwhelmed with the news and opinions of others, but the Bible is our one certain source of truth.
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2) If our heart’s desire is to know God’s will and ways, then we have to take time to study His word.
This year, we need to shake off the dust from the past year and get a new mind. “We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5) Our renewed mind looks to God first for direction, guidance and clarity. Dedicated times of prayer and reading God’s word are essential to renewing our minds!
Prayer & Reflection: Lord, which of my thoughts and mental patterns have strayed from Your truth? Help me to take these thoughts captive and renew my mind daily.
