Journey Of The Seed - Catch The Bible's Big Picture In 60 Days

DAY 55 OF 60

A CLOUD OF WITNESSES

[Scheduled Reading: Hebrews 8-13]

As we are learning, history is important to the New Testament writers.

Consider, Hebrews Chapter 11 - one of my favorite chapters in the Bible.

It’s known as the "Faith Hall of Fame" chapter - a roll call of faith heroes who lived life looking ahead to a reward. A reward yet to be received when they died.

(That means they were looking forward to their reward in heaven.)

The roll call begins with Abel. Then Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Joseph and Moses.

Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David and Samuel.

Many unnamed heroes are mentioned as well.

Some of the unknown faith heroes endured extreme persecution and fatal outcomes in exchange for heavenly rewards.

They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword (Hebrews 11:37).

Bible history is crucial!

It equips us with knowledge of the past. And offers heroes to encourage us as we walk into the future.

The Bible calls these heroes, our witnesses.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight , and the sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us… (Hebrews 12:1)

Let’s talk about it.

Regarding Hebrews 12:1, how can remembering these witnesses help us in our own journey with Christ?
