THE LORD, MY ROCK
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer. THE Lord is my ROCK.
Have we ever felt our feet giving way?
Have we ever had an experience of stepping on quicksand? It just pulls you down.
The Psalmist felt the same way when he was pursued by Saul.
Death, ungodliness and sorrow surrounded him and he was confronted by snares of death. This caused him distress, fears and tears. But in Psalm 18:46 he says: The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted.
When we are overwhelmed by problems and fears, there is pain within, we go through distress and it brings tears.
An experience such as this paralyses our movements, weakens our body and we begin to doubt our ability to face it. Many times we give up.
What else do we need to hear in times of trouble? When one is gripped with fear, there is instability. One feels like standing on slippery ground, there is uncertainty. It is in situations like these that we need Christ our solid rock to keep us from falling. This rock has stood the test of times and has been proved to be genuine and dependable.
David cries out to the Lord. The Lord delivered him and set his feet on a rock to stay.
Rock is a picture of stability. It will not give way. It will stand the storm, the rain, the wind. When everything gives way, the Lord is dependable. He is the bedrock, the hard solid rock. Vagaries of nature cannot sway it.
- Rock is a picture of stability - we can run to the rock
- Rock talks about dependability - it will never give way like the others, no matter what the situation is or how heavy the challenges are
- Rock is sustainable - it can sustain us now and forever more.
- Rock is credible - The Lord is my Rock. His promises are true. He is mighty than anyone else in this world. The Lord enables us and strengthens our arm.
On Christ the solid Rock we stand. Is it a song or our experience? If you have never relied on Him, try Him now. You will never regret it. Our hope is built on nothing less but on Jesus our righteousness. We dare not trust ourselves but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. When we stand on Christ, our solid Rock, all other ground is sinking sand.
Love the Lord your strength. Love the Lord your rock.
