A Moment With God

DAY 37 OF 61

A LIFE OF CONTENTMENT

Contentment is the need of the hour. We look at what others have and long for it. Discontentment is seeing what others have and forgetting to enjoy what we have. Discontentment leaves us complaining, comparing, craving, contriving and cheating. Look at the list. Discontentment develops in us these characteristics which hurts our relationship with others and robs us of our joy and happiness.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. This is a Psalm of comfort to many.

David knew the responsibility of a Shepherd. He calls the Lord, My Shepherd. He says: When the Lord is my shepherd, I have no wants because He meets all my wants. He is sufficient to provide for all our needs. I am deprived, devoid of nothing. All that is necessary for me, He gives. When I call Him Shepherd, I should not have any want.

Shepherd and Contentment go hand in hand. Many of us know the Psalm by heart, but we are not familiar with the Shepherd. The basic needs of a human being are:

  • Food
  • Finance
  • Fashion
  • Family
  • Friends
  • Future

All these needs are met by the Shepherd. It is the responsibility of the Shepherd to seek, support, sustain, supply and satisfy.

Matt 6: 33: Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Let us run after the Lord who supplies our need; let us not run after our need.

A person who is always in want reveals that he is Shepherd-less or discontented.

Life with the Shepherd is a life of contentment.

The secret of this contentment is that the Lord is our Shepherd, that we have an ongoing relationship with the Lord. Very often we run to the Lord only when we need something. We need a talking, living relationship with the Lord. When that happens, He knows our need and He supplies our need. We should never use the Lord only for relief and comfort. We should always be with Him and then we find that Psalm 23 becomes a reality in our life.

Are we content with the Shepherd? Are we satisfied with Him? Do we have an ongoing relationship with the Shepherd? What do we need - is it a want or a greed? Let us get to know the Shepherd deeply. He wants to bring us to the fold.

Every day, a word with the Shepherd will change my world.
