chapter four
1from where then are wars and from where are quarrels among you (PL)? (question) then not from here, (even) from your (PL) lusts, which struggle self in the body parts your (PL)? 2you (PL) want, and have not; you (PL) kill and are envious, and can it not obtain; you (PL) quarrel self around and wage war; you (PL) have not because of this, that you (PL) ask not. 3you (PL) ask yes and receives not, because you (PL) ask wrongly, so that you (PL) shall it devour in your (PL) lusts. 4you (PL) adulterers, (question) know you (PL) then not, that the love of world the this, is hatred to Hashem? therefore, who it wants to be a lover of the world, this one becomes a enemy of Hashem. 5or think you (PL), that in vain says the verse: to envy yearns jealously the Spirit, that He has made dwell in us? 6greater however is the grace, which He gives. therefore says He: Hashem puts self against the proud, the low however gives He favor. (Proverbs 3, 34.) 7submit then yourselves to Hashem; and put yourselves against the Satan, and he will flee from you (PL). 8come near yourselves to Hashem, and He will Himself get closer to you (PL). cleanse your (PL) hands, you (PL) sinners, and make pure your (PL) hearts, you (PL) double-hearted. 9torment yourselves and grieve and weep; shall your laughter turn be to weeping, and your joy to sadness. 10humble you (PL) before Hashem, and He will you (PL) to raise up.
11speak ill of not one the other, brothers. who it speak ill of a brother or judges his brother, this one speak ill of the law and judges the Torah; if however you (SG) judge the Torah, you are already not any devotee in the law, but a judge. 12one is the Lawgiver and Judge, the One, who is able to save and to destroy; who however you are, who judges your neighbor?
13now come you (PL), who say: today or tomorrow will we travel in this one and that (one) city into and there remain a year and do business and earn (gelt); 14and you (PL) know after all not, what tomorrow will be! what is your life? for you (PL) are a mist, which shows itself on a while and later becomes it vanish. (Luke 24, 31.) 15instead this shall you (PL) say: if wills (it) Hashem—and we will live, will we do the these things or those. 16and now boast you (PL) yourselves with your conceit; every such boasting is evil. 17therefore who it knows to do good, and does it not, is it for him a sin.
