1 Timothy 6
6
1Let as many servants as are under the yoke of slavery count their own masters worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and His teaching may not be slandered. # Isa 52:5; Titus 2:5 2Let those who have believing masters not despise them, because they are brothers. Instead, let them serve as slaves, because those who receive their service are faithful and beloved.
False Teaching and True Wealth
Teach and command these things. # 1Ti 4:11 3Anyone who teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, to the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to godly teaching # 1Ti 1:3, 10 4is conceited and knows nothing. He has a morbid disposition for controversy and verbal disputes, # 1Ti 1:4 from which come envy, strife, blasphemies, evil speculations, # 1Ti 3:6 5constant disputes by men of corrupt minds, being destitute of the truth, and supposing that financial gain is godliness. # 2Ti 3:8; Titus 1:11 Withdraw yourself from such men.
6But godliness with contentment is great gain. # 1Ti 4:8; Heb 13:5 7For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain that we can carry nothing out. # Job 1:21; Ps 49:17 8If we have food and clothing, # Ge 28:20 we shall be content with these things. 9But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful lusts, which drown men in ruin and destruction. # Pr 15:27; 1Ti 3:7 10For the love of money is a root of all evil. # Dt 16:19 While coveting after money, some have strayed from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
The Good Fight of Faith
11But you, O man of God, escape these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. # 2Ti 2:22; 3:17 12Fight the good fight of faith. # 1Co 9:25–26; 1Ti 1:18 Lay hold on eternal life, to which you are called and have made a good confession before many witnesses. 13I command you, in the sight of God, # 1Ti 5:21 who gives life to all things, and in the sight of Christ Jesus, who testified a good confession before Pontius Pilate, # Mt 27:11 14to keep this commandment without blemish, blameless until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15which He, who is the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, # 1Ti 1:11; Rev 17:14 will reveal at the proper time. 16He alone has immortality, living in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen, nor can see. # Jn 1:18; 1Ti 1:17 To Him be honor and everlasting power. Amen.
17Command those who are rich in this world that they not be conceited, # Ro 11:20 nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, # 1Ti 4:10 who richly gives us all things to enjoy. 18Command that they do good, that they be rich in good works, generous, willing to share, # Ro 12:8, 13 19and laying up in store for themselves a good foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of eternal life. # Lk 16:9; 1Ti 6:12
20O Timothy, guard that which is committed to your trust. Avoid profane babblings and opposing views from so-called knowledge. # Col 2:8; 2Ti 2:16 21By professing it, some have erred concerning the faith. # 2Ti 2:18
