Aftermath: Coming Down The MountainSample

Aftermath: Coming Down The Mountain

DAY 3 OF 14

Temptation

Have you ever been enticed by electronics, cars, or clothing? On the outside it looks amazing, stylish, and useful. Companies spend obscene amounts of money to lure you into wanting their products, but remember there is always a catch. At some point, you have to look at the price to see if it is worth it, if you can really afford to pay the price.

Sometimes when a person has a mountain-top encounter with the Lord and returns to their normal life, they will find themselves surrounded by temptation. Don’t panic! This is actually quite normal. It’s a strategy from Satan to undermine and stop what God is doing in your life. The devil wants nothing more than to distract you and destroy your life.

When someone is trying to catch a fish they use bait. Fishers use baits that come in different shapes, textures, sizes, tastes and colors. The purpose of the bait is to tempt the fish into eating the bait. As the fish takes the bait, and feels a tug, it realizes what was supposed to be a tasty meal is something entirely different. Underneath the bait is a hook that will lead to the fish being caught.

Our enemy loves to tempt us through attractive packaging, empty promises, and momentary pleasure in order to destroy our lives. Temptation is everywhere so we need be cautious and protect ourselves. Take hope in the fact that God says He will not let us be tempted beyond what we can handle. In fact, the Bible says God will provide a way out of those situations when you are tempted, so look for the way out.

Challenge:

  1. How are you tempted? (ex: social media, alcohol, video games, drugs, food, pornography, gossip). When are you tempted? (ex: late at night, when your tired, feeling lonely). Where are you tempted? (ex: home, school, work, at a party, at a club).

  2. How can you equip yourself to fight against temptation? Memorize scripture. Pray about the areas you are being tempted in. Have an accountability partner who will encourage you and isn’t afraid to ask hard questions.

  3. PRAY: God you are better than any temptation. Please help me in weaknesses and show me the way out of the temptations I face.
