Love God Greatly: Jesus Our EverythingIsampula
The people in the Old Testament did not have example after example and story after story of God’s faithfulness. They had God’s promises and God’s commands. They believed Him because of who He was. He had not yet fulfilled His promise, but they believed what they could not see and trusted His faithfulness.
The heroes of the Bible believed God would do what He said He would do. They did not have the Bible to read about God’s faithfulness to others in the past. They only had faith He would fulfill His promise. They were sure God would do what He promised, even though they could not see it. Most of them did not see it fulfilled in their lifetimes, but nevertheless, they were still convinced of God’s ability and willingness to come through on His promise.
When we are convinced God will do what He said He will do, we are commended for our faith. We have countless examples of God’s faithfulness, and therefore, it should be easier for us to trust God and believe His promises. As we grow in our faith, may we learn to trust Him more and more whether or not we can see Him working. For His faithfulness has not changed. May we be convinced, beyond the shadow of a doubt, of what we do not see.
Father God, You are faithful. I want to believe You, but I am fearful and discouraged when I don’t see You working. Give me endurance to continue to trust You regardless of my feelings. Let my faith be dependent on You, not on how I feel. In Jesus’ name, amen.
