DAY 20 | UN-PRIVILEGING

žcentering thought

“Unity is a natural byproduct of our pursuing the purpose of imitating Christ …”

If anyone understood privilege, it was Jesus. He enjoyed all the riches of heaven and the rewards of uninterrupted time in the presence of God. Pure peace. Pure joy. Pure fellowship. Pure love. But then came the request that would change all of that.

“Son, it is time …” the Father whispered.

Jesus knew what those words meant. He would leave the splendor of heaven; pull on real, live human flesh; and walk among the people God loved so dearly, teaching them firsthand how to live.

Philippians says that despite Jesus’ stature as the second person of the Trinity, he willfully set aside his divine privilege so that he could accomplish what his Father had asked him to do. “The same attitude that Christ Jesus had” is to be our attitude too, which begs the question: what privilege might we be willing to set aside, so that God’s restorative will can be done?

How has God asked us to participate in bringing goodness and grace to this world? And what privilege will we necessarily need to part with, in order to see that work done through us?

question to ponder

What is one deliberate act of un-privileging you can pursue today?
