Day 9 - Even When

We read yesterday that Joseph did the right thing. He was faced with temptation and he ran. No matter what else might happen, he could know that he made the right choice. But what happens when you know you made the right choice but your circumstances get worse? We read that when Joseph ran away, Potiphar's wife grabbed his cloak from him. She then used it as a way to get back at Joseph for telling her no. She claimed that it was Joseph that came onto her instead of the other way around. Because of her lies, Joseph lost trust with Potiphar and was thrown into jail. He had done no wrong yet was met with unjust consequences.

We'll read today, however, that while Joseph was in a hopeless situation God was still with him.

“But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; He showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.”-Genesis 39:21

Joseph’s situation got worse after doing the right thing, but we can see that it didn't stop the Lord's faithfulness in blessing Joseph. Just like the Lord allowed Joseph to gain favor in Potiphar’s eyes, he granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. And just like Potiphar put Joseph in charge of the household, the prison warden eventually put Joseph in charge of the prisoners. Even when his circumstances were looking hopeless, God never left Joseph and continued to bless him.

You can know that the Lord is with you too. He promises it in His word. Even when you make the right choice and it doesn’t go exactly as you hoped or planned, God is with you. Even when your life is a mess or nothing seems to be going right, the Lord is with you. Even when it's hard to see what He is doing, the Lord is blessing you. You just have to make the choice to trust His plans and see his blessings. God works for the good of those who love him. It's a promise you can count on!
