Advent: Join the Triumph預覽

The Scripture:

"Those who lived in the villages of Israel would not fight. They held back until I, Deborah, came. I came as a mother in Israel" (Judges 5:7, NIRV).

The Story:

The Bible is full of amazing heroes who, through the Power of God, bring Triumph. Some of those heroes are moms. Moms are awesome and as soon as you’re done with this you should go thank her for being awesome. Today’s hero is a woman named Deborah: she was a judge over Israel. Now, when you think of a judge, you may think of a George Washington wig, baggy black robes, and a sick, sick hammer. But a judge in this time was a warrior who led God’s people into battle and against enemies.

The story of the Book of Judges is honestly a sad one. It is a story about victory, but then immediately falling back into defeat. It’s kind of like what would happen if your favorite team won a championship but then got super lazy because they thought they’re the best, and then they lose, and then they train to be the best again. But then when they are the best again, they get lazy again and it starts all over. That is exactly what is happening with God’s people. They are close to God, then they forget about God, they fall into sin, they get captured by another army, God sends a judge, they are close to God, and then they forget about God again. It is EXHAUSTING.

Deborah is one of the warriors God calls out to rescue His people, and she is amazing. Through the Power of God, she brings Triumph and Victory. But Deborah eventually passes away. When that happens, things get a lot worse and they need a new hero again. The Bible tells us that heroes are great but we need a permanent hero. We need a Forever Savior.

The Triumph:

Jesus is the Forever Savior we need. He is the only One who can defeat death forever, and He did defeat death forever. That is why Christmas is so amazing. It is the celebration of our Savior being born so we don’t have to go through the cycle of winning and then losing again. Jesus breaks those cycles on the Cross and with the Empty Tomb. One amazing thing to remember is, with Jesus, the Forever Savior, the cycle began to break because of the obedience of His mom, Mary. Moms are amazing, and just like Deborah obeyed God, and God’s people won because of it, Mary obeyed God and now we all can be God’s people.
